English brown oak is the result of a fungal attack ( Fisitulina hepatica ) in the growing tree. The result is a wonderful deep brown as seen in this cabinet. I was fortunate to get my hands on six boards ( 2,5mx80cmx30cm ) of brown oak of exceptional quality, in 1989 in Derbyshire.
