I am dependent on fine tools ( instruments ) in order to achieve the finished “cut-surface”. I use traditional Japanese saws for the fine saw-kerf, hand-forged Japanese chisels, and Hock plane-irons in the wooden planes I have made myself. The fineness and precision achievable with my hand-made planes and spokeshaves is remarkable. This photograph depicts some of the round-bottem planes of differing radii. I am able to plan the inner curve of coopered doors. I f you travel with your fingertips over the surface, you will experience the traces left behind by the curved plan-iron.
