This is a close-up photogragh of rippled English ash after the finishing cut with one of my wooden planes. My aim is to leave surface with as fine a cut surface, as possible.Traces of the finishing cut may be discernable. The resulting suble colouring and fine structure of the wood is what fascinates me, especially woods with “refractive” qualities, such as birch.
