Ironically, I would describe my approach as the antithesis. The form is dictated by the figure of the selected wood, and the irregularities in the actual growth. To achieve a kidney-shaped top, I would first have to find a tree where the actual growth from the base to the crown is bowed. Joining the boards is very painstaking work, but the result speaks for itself. In making a clothes cupboard, the essential measurements in order to fulfil its function, are the only “fixted” parameters.
